Joey Logano on Pole in Final Race with Joe Gibbs Racing

It may be his final race with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Sprint Cup Series, but that doesn’t mean Joey Logano is done making a statement with the team!

Logano ran a lap of 30.672 seconds at 176.056 M.P.H. to earn the final Pole Position up for grabs in the 2012 NASCAR campaign.

“This sport is a roller-coaster, and there are a lot of ups and downs every weekend,” Logano told CBS Sports. “One week you’re on top of your game, and the next you’re on the bottom of the pile. This year is no different. We had the win at Pocono but also had some tough luck and some ups and downs. I feel like as we go through those we learn from it and get stronger.”

Logano out qualified Marcos Ambrose, Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, and Aric Almirola who round out the top-5 qualifiers from Friday Night.

The strong qualifying results of Ambrose and Almirola are yet another sign that Richard Petty Motorsports is continuing to improve. They’ve had strong qualifying efforts all year, but bad luck has taken both drivers out of contention of a win through out the season.

Your championship leader will start third (Keselowski) and Jimmie Johnson will start tenth. Keselowski only has to finish 15th in order to clinch his first Sprint Cup Championship in just his third full-time season.

Did Not Qualify: Reed Sorenson, Stephen Leicht, Jason Leffler, Joe Nemechek
