At Phoenix International Raceway, tempers flared and rumors began. While some of the tempers and attitudes have not changed since the Advocare 500, some of those rumors have been confirmed. It began with Marty Smith reporting Kevin Harvick would be leaving Richard Childress Racing.
During championship week in Las Vegas, Richard Childress did take a few moments to comment on the Kevin Harvick and Stewart-Haas Racing rumors and he did finally confirm that they were indeed true.
“People are not going to be buying a lot of 29 souvenirs for sure. It’ll make a difficult year. It’s there. We’ve got to live with it and move forward. Again, the timing wasn’t great on the leak. But we’re going to go race,” Childress told ESPN.
Until this week, Childress, Harvick, and Tony Stewart have all denied and refused to comment on the situation.
Childress did not comment on whether he would be losing sponsorship, but a few weeks ago when the rumors began to spark, Budweiser and Jimmy Johns both confirmed they fully support Harvick and his transition and would follow him where ever he goes. Rheem has not said anything in regards to whether they leave or not, Rheem has been a sponsor of Harvick’s team and Childress’ for the past few seasons.
