As with any transition in NASCAR, you’re bound to have to adapt and get used to new personnel and team members. Such as the case for Joey Logano who is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing and will be moving over to Penske Racing for 2013.
Tab Boyd has been hired as his new spotter for 2013 at Penske Racing, and Boyd will get a chance to work with Logano this coming week during the Charlotte 2013 G6 Car test.
Boyd will also be taking over the spotter duties for Penske’s Nationwide Series team with Sam Hornish Jr. He also will work as a fabricator during the week at the shop.
For the last decade, Boyd has been a spotter in NASCAR working mostly with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. He most recently has worked with Juan Pablo Montoya and Danica Patrick.
As for Logano, he will also get a chance to work with his new crew chief, Todd Gordon, who will be returning to lead the #22 team for a second season. It’s been hard to recognize Gordon’s true leadership and team ability based on a season full of turmoil that included working with two drivers after AJ Allmendinger was suspended for several months after failing a drug test.
