All I can say is, thank goodness for Football Season. How else does one handle the time between the final race of the year at Homestead, and the Bud Shootout? Sorry, The Sprint Unlimited? Congratulations to the San Francisco 49ers, and The Baltimore Ravens for being winners on Championship Weekend, and for their impending trip to The Super Bowl.
If you are a true motorhead, the upcoming weekend is for you. The Rolex 24 gets underway on Saturday afternoon and marks the beginning of activities at Daytona International Speedway. This year, they have added The Ferrari Challenge to the festivities at the famous 3.56 mile road course for the Rolex Weekend, and will be run on January 25th at 11:45 AM and January 26th at 10:00 AM Eastern, prior to the start of the 51st Rolex.
The Ferrari Challenge is organized by Ferrari North America and its authorized dealers and is sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association (GRAND-AM).
In 1992, Ferrari created the Ferrari Challenge, a single marquee racing series designed to allow Ferrari owners to race fellow Ferrari owners on the world’s greatest race tracks. The Ferrari Challenge expanded into North America in 1993 and has enjoyed a full schedule of races every year since.
The Ferrari Challenge races are included in the daily race ticket, which are available online at
www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
If you are making the trip to Central Florida for Speed Weeks activities, be sure to check out the New Smyrna Speedway in Samsula, Florida. The New Smyrna Speedway has racing nightly during speed weeks, and features all the local talent running Super Late Models. Late Models, Modified Stock, and Bombers. It is a o.48 mile asphalt track located Southwest of Daytona, and who knows, occasionally the NASCAR guys show up to test their skills with the local boys.
You can get to the track by going South on I95 from Daytona and take the New Smyrna exit, go West about 9 miles. Race track is the only thing there. They have made the switch from FASCAR to NASCAR during the off-season, so are now a NASCAR sanctioned track. If you’re making the trip to Daytona, take jackets. If you’re from up North, that 69 degrees looks warm, but with the wind blowing, and the humidity, it’s not.
