Today was the final day on the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour and one of the final stops was at Roush-Fenway Racing. There you can find two-time defending NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Stenhouse had now graduated his way on up into the Sprint Cup Series where he is replacing Matt Kenseth behind the wheel of the #17 Ford Fusion for Jack Roush.
During media tour questions, Stenhouse was asked about by a reporter if he was dating popular and rising NASCAR driver, Danica Patrick.
“We’ve got a great relationship. Obviously, it started when she came into the sport. We were both going to rookie meetings. It’s been cool to work with her in the Nationwide Series. I’ve felt like she could come to me with advice with the experience I’ve had. But, you know, I don’t like to talk too much about my personal life. I think this week is about Roush Fenway, the Gen 6 (car), our sponsors and our season that we’re looking ahead to. It’s going to be fun racing her in rookie of the year. I think it’s going to be very exciting. I’ve never raced a friend for a championship, for rookie of the year.”
Patrick filed for divorce earlier this month in Arizona citing an irretrievably broken marriage.
When asked to comment on the question and Stenhouse’s answer, Patrick was unavailable. However when the media tour was at Stewart-Haas Racing on Monday, she did cite Stenhouse was a good and close friend of hers.
Stenhouse says that his focus is currently on winning this year’s rookie of the year competition against Patrick. He also acknowledged that he attended a bull riding competition with Patrick and a group of his friends at which they were spotted together.
Continuing to ensure the media that his focus is on winning races, Stenhouse stated in regards to the race track saying “Heck no, we’re going for rookie of the year. People always say, ‘I’d wreck my mom to win,’ and that’s a racer’s mentality. I want to win rookie of the year just as badly as she does.”
Stenhouse cited that his friendship with Patrick hit off immediately and in 2010 is when they really became close friends. Some media and gossip outlets have been citing Stenhouse as part of the reason Patrick filed for divorce, however both drivers state that Stenhouse had nothing to do with it because Patrick’s marriage was over regardless.
