2013: Casey Mears News and Nuggets

A few weeks ago, we began a series previewing the new 2013 season for each of the drivers, we got off track with the testing and media tours. Now we are getting back on track with Casey Mears!

Mears will be returning to Germain Racing in 2013 behind the wheel of their #13 Geico Insurance Ford Fusion. Mears and Geico are both under contract through the 2014 Sprint Cup Series.

Geico however is only signed on to sponsor the car as the primary sponsor for 20 races of the 38 events on the schedule. Even though Geico appears on the car for those other eighteen races, it is not signed in the contract that they do, Germain just keeps something on the car so it doesn’t appear blank. Last season Mears started and parked in most of those races, however the plans this year remain to be unseen how the team will race in their unsponsored events.

With one pole last season at Bristol when qualifying was rained out, Mears’ did not qualify for this year’s Sprint Unlimited. Rules state that a pole position via practice speeds do not count towards qualifying for the Sprint Unlimited.

His best finish last season was a Sonoma when he grabbed a 15th place finish. His average finish for the 2012 season overall was 27th. Mears completed the season 29th in the final drivers standings.
