2013: Joey Logano News & Nuggets

The 2013 season is going to be a little different for Joey Logano. Joey has a new team (Penske), new sponsor (Shell/Pennzoil), new manufacturer (ford) and a new number (22). Logano changed just about everything he could and that might not have been the worst idea.

This season has potential to be a breakout year for Logano. He clearly was not going to win a championship with Gibbs scoring only two wins in 4 seasons and one of those being a rained shortened race. It doesn’t hurt that his new teammate is the 2012 champion Brad Keselowski. I think they are going to work great together and Penske is going to be a very dominant team this year.

Joey Logano should have a clear mind going into the 2013 season. A fresh look with a new team and he doesn’t have the problem of where is he going to race next year. Personally I think it would be hard to race knowing your not going to be with that team the next year. Luckily Joey doesn’t have to worry about that anymore. He also doesn’t have to worry about living up to the title the “greatest thing since sliced bread” as he had to in 2009. That wasn’t any easy task to do and as a result he did not live up to it. Personally I thought he was WAY to young to be racing at that level but, now he has some experience so he should do better.

Joey Logano has great potential this year and people are expecting him to have a successful year. If he does not and doesn’t even win a single race, then maybe its time to reconsider Joeys talent.

Joey got what he needed last season in the Nationwide Series, some wins. I always felt he needed to mature in that series before they brought him to cup. He had some big shoes to fill coming in behind Tony Stewart, and he just wasn’t ready. Ricky Stenhouse Jr is an example of how a young driver needs to be developed. Joey needed the same preparation.
