We all saw Scott Speed race his heart out in the Budweiser Duel to make the Daytona 500 and the next day, DISH jumped on board as the sponsor for the Daytona 500. Speed brought the #95 home 23rd after leading 2 laps during the event. Now the team heads to Phoenix with a blank race car once again but it won’t be sporting the usual blue, red and silver paint scheme we have grown accustomed to seeing. The #95 Ford Fusion will be a hard car to miss when it pulls onto the track in it’s all black scheme with a white skull and crossbones on the hood. The phrase, “Surrender the Sponsor” will be written across the rear bumper.
I first saw the scheme when Scott posted it on his twitter page and it is pretty awesome looking if you ask me. The team hopes that the unique paint scheme will attract a willing sponsor for future races. It’s a genius marketing move by the small team to grab a little bit of the spotlight at Phoenix and you can already see that it’s working. The idea to do this came from Scott Speed and his crew chief, Wally Rogers. The Jolly Roger is the last thing anyone would think of seeing in the middle of the desert but that’s exactly what’s happening this weekend! In a time where small teams struggle to make their way in NASCAR, LFR continues to fight and do so with a few laughs along the way…I wonder if the pit box will fly the pirate flag as well? Hey, after painting a race car up like that, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit!
