Yes, believe it folks! AJ Allmendinger is back with the Penske Racing. Allmendinger was released from the organization last year at the Coke Zero 400 for violating NASCAR’s substance abuse policy.
Team Penske has publicly announced the rehiring of Allmendinger for two IndyCar races. He will drive the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet at Barber Motorsports Park and in the Indy 500 in May.
“It’s every driver’s dream to race for Team Penske at the Indy 500, and that experience is going to be incredible. I also have to thank Izod for their support and for giving me a chance to show what I can do. I definitely intend to make the most of,” said Allmendinger in a statement.
Despite everything the driver has gone through, Roger Penske has stood behind his former and now current driver. He understand the things Allmendinger has gone through and knows its important that people support him as he gets his career back on track.
The last time Allmendinger drove an open-wheel race car in a competitive circuit was back in 2006 before the collapse of CHAMP Car.
