Kobalt Tools 400: Rain Delay Gives Brad Keselowski Pole Position

Qualifying and practices were rained out on Friday afternoon at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway so therefore the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars will lineup according to point standings.

Naturally, the current reigning and defending Sprint Cup Series champion, Brad Keselowski, will lead the field to the green flag on Sunday in the Kobalt Tools 400.

“Yeah, that is a really good deal,” Keselowski said. “It is one of the perks I guess of being the champion in the first few races. Obviously with the rain coming you are kind of getting a great deal there. That is the first time I have had a decent starting position in a rainout. That is great. I feel pretty good about that.”

Drivers starting in positions one through thirty-sixth were set up according to last year’s owner points. The final available positions via provisionals were awarded based on this year’s owners points.

The rest of the top ten in order will be: Clint Bowyer, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon.

The final drivers in the field that grabbed the provisionals were: Danica Patrick, David Stremme, Michael McDowell, Scott Speed, Landon Cassill, Joe Nemechek, Josh Wise.

Sadly the rain means that Mike Bliss and his No. 19 team made the trip out west for no reason. He will be the only “did not qualify” driver this week.
