After qualifying was rained out on Friday the starting lineup was based on owner points which meant Brian Vickers and Trevor Bayne would lead the field to the start of the race. It didn’t take long for a caution either.
Not even five laps into the race Eric McClure had engine issues and brought out the first caution of the race on lap three. Brian Vickers was still the leader when they went back to racing. The lead didn’t last long for Vickers as going through lap traffic Brad Keselowski passed him. The competition caution came out on lap 35 and that also brought the first pit stops. Regan Smith and Trevor Bayne only took tires and became the leaders. The third caution was brought out on lap 54 when Joe Nemecheck and Mike Wallace got together and sent Nemecheck spinning. Under caution Trevor Bayne decided to pit as none of the other leaders did.
On the restart Sam Hornish Jr got a great jump and took the top spot and held it for awhile. Robert Richardson Jr brought out the 4th yellow flag on lap 81. He spun out in turn two all by himself and the caution brought out pit stops for the leaders. The race off pit road was one by Trevor Bayne and Kyle Larson who only took fuel.
Then things got interesting on lap 87 when racing for the lead Kyle Larson and Trevor Bayne got together off of turn four and both went into the wall. That made Brian Vickers the leader on the restart but it only took a few laps for Sam Hornish Jr to take the lead back. A long green flag run would in sue and that would be bad for Brad Keselowski who had front splitter problems and had to pit. Then not long after on lap 139 the 6th caution came out for debris. All the leaders pitted during the caution and Kyle Busch who was moving up all day won the race off pit road.
When the green went out it took a few laps but Sam Hornish Jr regained the lead from Kyle Busch on lap 153. Sam lead another long green flag run when with 17 laps to go Scott Lagasse Jr who was in 19th spun in between turns one and two. Under caution the top seven stayed out.
The wrecking started right away as off of turn two Joey Gase was slow and got a hit from behind and sent him into Kyle Larson who took a hard hit into the wall. The green flag flew again with seven laps to go and it took a few laps but Hornish finally cleared Kyle Busch after laps of side by side racing. Sam Hornish started to once again pull away and never looked back and he won his second career Nationwide race. Kyle Busch came in second and Brian Vickers came in third. Trevor Bayne who crashed earlier did an amazing job and came back to finish 4th.
