Last night the stars of the AMA Supercross tour hit the beach of Daytona…well actually the Daytona International Speedway! It was the tenth stop on their tour of seventeen events.
Taking home all the glory in the Supercross 450 class was Ryan Villopoto. Once Villopoto passed Ken Roczen for the lead on lap four, it was smooth sailing for him. He dominated the main event to capture his third Daytona Supercross victory. The win also puts him in the points lead with just seven events left on the schedule.
“Daytona is a unique place to race,” Villopoto said. “To win it is pretty awesome. It’s not like any other racing. If you can get a win here, it shows you are definitely one of the best. Sometimes it doesn’t go as planned but I’ll take it. It feels really good.”
Ryan Dungey, Justin Barcia, Eli Tomac, and Chad Reed rounded out the top-5 at Daytona in the 450 class.
Villopoto has a two point lead over David Millsaps in the point standings. Ryan Dungey sits third with fourteen points to make up. Trey G Canard and Chad Reed are tied for fourth place. Both riders have 163 points and thirty-nine points back.
The AMA Supercross Series heads to Lucas Oil Raceway next weekend for round eleven!
