When the green flag waves at 5:19 p.m. Saturday, last year’s winner Joey Logano will not be in the field. However his old team will have several drivers in the field looking to continue the Joe Gibbs Racing dominance at Auto Club Speedway.
Kyle Busch has been dominate at the track as well and coming off a win last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, he may just be the one to beat this week. He has an average finish of 7.2 at Auto Club Speedway.
Sam Hornish Jr. is having some great early success. Currently leading the point standings with a reasonable cushion between he and Justin Allgaier. He also won a few weeks ago back at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. While very differently, the speedway feel of both tracks can related to each other and could be another track Hornish succeeds at this year.
Justin Allgaier had a good run here last year. An engine failure at the end of the race would cost him a solid finish. Allgaier is a driver who has potential and tons of talent, but unfortunately circumstance take him out of contention.
Point Standings (after Bristol)
- Sam Hornish Jr.
- Justin Allgaier | – 22
- Brian Scott | – 25
- Regan Smith | – 26
