Break out the brooms!..Kyle Busch’s win at The Auto Club 400 on Sunday gave the controversial driver his ninth weekend sweep of his career. He also won the Royal Purple 300 Nationwide race on Saturday. You might remember, he also won the only triple sweep of a weekend at Bristol in 2012.
Kyle Busch gets his 25th victory in Sprint Cup competition at the California speedway, and the first for Toyota at this venue. This race has traditionally been dominated by Chevys, and in particular, Jimmie Johnson. This is Kyle’s first victory in the 2013 season, and first in almost a year. His last win came at Richmond last April.
Busch’s win came on Sunday at the expense of Denny Hamlin, who got tangled up with…who else?..Joey Logano. Logano pushed his former teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing up the track on the final restart, and came down to hit the inside wall head on. He was taken to a local hospital and kept overnight for observation.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished in second place, but takes over the Sprint Cup points lead. He now leads second place, Brad Keselowski by 11 points as the series takes Easter weekend off, and resumes at Martinsville in two weeks.
Kurt Busch finished in third place, for his 10th top ten finish at Auto Club Speedway. Ricky Stenhouse Jr was the top finishing rookie. He ended his race in 19th place.
If you are a NASCAR fan, this is turning into a pretty good season. You got a good race at Fontana, a wild finish, and a fist fight afterwards. What else do you want? Kyle Busch has kept his nose pretty clean for almost a year now, and the new bad guy is Joey Logano. Logano has not only been involved in controversy most of the season since he lost his ride at Gibbs racing, but now he has pissed Tony Stewart off. Tony has never wrecked anyone, and has never been a bad boy…….Yeah Right!
