Ryan Villopoto won his 33rd career race in Salt Lake City Saturday night and in doing so, he clinched his 3rd consecutive AMA Supercross title. It was by no means an easy task though with a desperate Davi Millsaps stalking him the whole race. The two were engaged in an epic battle that put them to the ultimate physical and mental test. They traded lap times and hundredths were being gained and lost; that’s how equal they were! Ryan Dungey wasn’t too far behind them but he was unable to make any moves for the lead late in the event falling back.
Davi or Dungey had to finish in front of Ryan Villopoto to stop him from locking up the title and although they failed, they certainly rode their guts out. It was some of the hardest racing I have ever seen in Supercross as these guys went 120% from the first lap to the last never giving an inch. Villopoto has won 3 straight titles which has only been done three times before by legends Bob Hannah, Jeremy McGrath and the GOAT; Ricky Carmichael. The Salt Lake City win is the 33rd of his career placing him 5th on the all-time wins list.
The unofficial top from the race is 1-Villopoto, 2-Millsaps, 3-Dungey, 4-Canard, 5-Barcia, 6-Brayton, 7-Hill, 8-Short, 9-Peick, 10-Reed. Poto may have locked up the title but the fight for 2nd is on as we gear up for Las Vegas. 3pts separate Ryan Dungey and Davi Millsaps right now with the #18 of Davi being in control. The SX East & West titles will be decided at Las Vegas and it’s sure to be another crazy night of racing that you can watch live on SPEED next Saturday night!
