Will Kevin Harvick Use A New Number in 2014?

It’s no secret that Kevin Harvick is leaving Richard Childress Racing to join Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014! But the question that remains is, which car number will Harvick use with the new team?

Obviously, one would think he would continue to use No. 29! With Austin Dillon more than likely going to use No. 3 when he makes the move up to the Sprint Cup Series, Childress has no need to keep the No. 29.

One rumor was putting the No. 8 to be used yet again in NASCAR. No. 3 and No. 8 have not been used in several seasons. Both were made famous by Earnhardt’s too!

Or perhaps he will be using a number nobody would ever guess…No. 4?

Jayski.com posted earlier today that Stewart-Haas Racing has filed for trademark on the No. 4. It was also noted that you could find the application by searching “Stewart-Haas” at uspto.gov1!

For Harvick, it’d be nice to keep his number that he made famous. Just like Dale Sr. made No. 3 iconic with himself, Harvick made No. 29 his iconic trademark.

However, it’s very rare that drivers keep their numbers when joining a new team. Stenhouse sacrificed the No. 6 when he moved up from the Nationwide Series and joined the No. 17 team. Matt Kenseth lost his No. 17 to Stenhouse when he took over the No. 20 ride from Joey Logano.
