Frank Kimmel won his 77th ARCA race today at Talladega Superspeedway after rain ended the event 20 laps shy of the finish. The victory puts him just 2 away from the all-time record which is held by 6x ARCA champion Iggy Katona. Kimmel passed the No.02 of Josh Williams late in the race and that turned out to be the pass for the win when the skies opened up and the race was called. Kimmel continues to lead the ARCA standings as he tries to win his 10th title in ARCA. The 2nd place finisher from Talladega, Mason Mingus is second in the standings as well.
The race kicked off with Milka Duno leading the field to the green flag driving for Venturni Motorsports. The first wreck of the race occurred when Duno got into the side of her teammate John Wes Townley who was running 5th at the time. The contact sent him barreling into the outside wall and ended with JWT slamming the inside wall nearly head-on after it seemed his throttle stuck. On the restart, chaos ensued in turn 2 when Thomas Praytor tried to cut down in front of Mika Duno stacking up the field. 16 cars were involved in the massive pileup taking out drivers such as James Hylton, Justin Boston, Tom Hessert, Mason Mitchell, Spencer Gallagher and many more.
There were a few more incidents during the race but nothing major except for one of the race favorites, Bobby Gerhart blowing an engine running around 10th. Here are the complete results from the rain shortened race:
