For the past two seasons Michael Waltrip, Brian Vickers, and Mark Martin have shared the part-time duties of the No. 55 Toyota. It’s a combination that has worked out and accommodated both sponsor and team needs. Now, Martin is departing and Waltrip is searching for a full-time driver.
The man Waltrip wants to drive his No. 55 Toyota next season is Brian Vickers. However, long-time sponsor Aaron’s obviously will have to agree as will other sponsors that will make up the thirty-eight event sponsorship package for each car.
Yesterday, Waltrip was asked about when he would announced the driver for the No. 55 next season, but couldn’t give a direct answer. He did however announced what he wants for next season and who he wants involved.
“We’ve targeted Brian Vickers as the guy that we want to drive our car. We think that Brian is a future champion of the Cup Series so we want Brian to drive it and we want Aaron’s to sponsor it. That’s the news and that’s where it’s at. I think both Aaron’s and Brian are very into making that happen. It would just be a matter of getting the details worked out in order to be able to announce it soon,” said Waltrip on the future of the No. 55.
An announcement will obviously come in the coming months, and Waltrip said that it shouldn’t surprise anybody when the details are official and announced.
