Peter Dempsey Wins Freedom 100 in Photo Finish!

Ireland’s Peter Dempsey won his first career Indy Lights race today and he did so in spectacular fashion. He took the white flag in 4th position and as the leaders raced 3 wide in front of him, he closed in quickly. The three leaders came out of turn four and it looked like a parade lap except for that fact that they were going 190mph! Dempsey jumped to the outside making it 4-wide with cars spread out wall-to-wall. The four drag raced to the stripe and Peter won it by just .0026 thousandths over Gabby Chaves.

Carlos Munoz and Sage Karam led most of the event swapping the lead and working together until the very end. There was only one caution during the race and that was Kyle O’Gara crashing hard in turn four very early on after spinning out all by himself. Chase Austin bounced off the wall during the race but soldiered on to a 7th place result while title contender Jack Hawksworth wasn’t so fortunate retiring from the race after contact with the wall. On the pace lap before the green flag was even thrown, rookie Jimmy Simpson spun while trying to heat up his tires.
