Bobby Labonte And AJ Allmendinger Swap Rides

Bobby Labonte will be racing for Phoenix Racing and AJ Allmendinger will be racing for JTG Daugherty Racing in Michigan for this weeks Sprint Cup Series race. The reason for the switching is because the 47 team does not have any sponsorship for five races this season and they want to give Allmendinger a ride to test the teams performance. Bobby Labonte is scheduled to be back in the car the following week at Sonoma.

With Allmendinger racing for JTG that meant that Phoenix Racing had a vacant seat and Bobby Labonte is probably one of the best drivers that did not have a ride this week. Bobby Labonte is the 2000 Sprint Cup Champion and has proved that he knows how to drive a race car. For Allmendinger, ever since he had the suspension last season, he has been looking for a permanent ride in NASCAR.

Honestly, I believe the winner in this is Bobby Labonte. JTG Daugherty Racing probably has some of the worst equipment that a NASCAR team could have. When Bobby Labonte was with Joe Gibbs he proved that he was great driver winning 21 races and a championship. Labonte has not had a great ride ever since he left the team in 2005. As for Allmendinger, he has raced in both NASCAR and IndyCar this year.

It is going to really interesting to see how the two teams do with different drivers. I would imagine that both teams are going to run about the same and I wouldn’t expect to see any real surprises.

With the switch, Labonte can keep his record for most consecutive starts going!
