Rosberg Clutches Victory Among Drama Filled Silverstone

In a race that will be remembered more for its numerous Pirelli tyre punctures rather than any actual racing, Nico Rosberg has clutched his second victory for the season.

Rosberg’s team mate, Lewis Hamilton, suffered earlier on in the race when his tyre exploded which in turn gave Sebastian Vettel the lead.

Hamilton’s tyre blowout was one of five and it has made many of the drivers worry over their safety if similar situations are allowed to occur in coming races.

Race winner, Rosberg said the drivers should never have been put at such risk.

Well, we shouldn’t get into that situation,” he told ESPN. “We need to do what needs to be done to sort it out and make the tyres last.”

Jenson Button also reiterated Rosberg’s feelings, firmly stating that the drivers were lucky nothing worse happened when the five seperate incidents occured.

Retiring from first place, Vettel’s retirement was one that wasn’t caused by tyre issues but by a gearbox problem.

Rosberg inherited and held the lead even though a late safety car bunched the remaining pack together.

However, the young German’s victory was almost stolen from him in the closing lap by the very quick remaining Red Bull.

In his first race since the announcement of his retirement from Formula 1, Mark Webber hunted down Rosberg to finish only 0.700’s of a second behind the Silver Arrow.
