Nascar: Let The 2014 Racing Season Begin

It seems like an eternity since we saw Jimmie Johnson winning his sixth Sprint Cup Title last year. Days of Thunder are over, The Rolex 24 Hour is in the history books, so that means it’s time for Speedweeks 2014. Like Darrell Waltrip always tells us, “it’s time to go racing boys!” As a 20 year-year resident of Central Florida, February always marked the beginning of spring, and that always meant it was time to make the annual pilgrimage to Daytona Beach, and the Bud Shootout.

Yeah, I know they call it the Sprint UnLimited now, but whatever they want to call it, it still marks the beginning of a new season,  the smell of burnt rubber, and very high-octane smoke at the iconic old speedway. For a die-hard like myself, the banquet is over, silly season is in the books, and it’s time to get back on the track and start trading some paint.

The Sprint Unlimited is like the first day of school. Fresh new paint jobs, new drivers in new cars, on new teams with new crew chiefs, and a brand new set of rules. You’ll need a program, or App Saturday night to keep up with the driver changes we had during the off-season. Kevin Harvick is driving for Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman has Kevin’s old ride..blah…blah..blah.

A big shake up at Michael Waltrip Racing, new faces at Phoenix Racing, and who is in the Furniture Row Racing machine? Kevin and Kurt on the same team? Can Danica win this year, and the legendary number “Three” will be back on the track. Wow…can’t wait. It all gets underway on Saturday evening at Daytona International Speedway for the running of the Sprint Unlimited.

The broadcast starts at 8PM Easten Fox Sports 1, and we should see the green flag soon after. The format for this race is for us, the fans to decide. You can vote for the Race Format, The Starting Order, and the Restart Order for the final Segment at nascar.com prior to 6PM Eastern Time on Saturday evening.

So get your Laz-Y-Boy up next to the TV, get a Cold One and buckle up for a new season of NASCAR Racing. Boogity-Boogity-Boogity!!
