Budweiser Duel Race Recap

The Budweiser Duels were ran for the first time under the lights at Daytona and at the end, the lineup for the Daytona 500 was set. Here is  how it all played out.

Duel 1:

The first duel race was relatively quite. 60 laps of green flag racing meant no carnage on the track as the 24 cars took the checkered flag.

The No.36 of Reed Sorenson took his car to the garage with issues under the hood. He wouldn’t return to the track and finished last.

Matt Kenseth is your Duel 1 winner with Kevin Harvick coming in a close second in his new No.4 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Michael McDowell will be one of the cars going home from the first race.

Duel 2:

Another calm race, for Daytona that is, until the white flag.

A pit road penalty and a flat tire would ruin Brad Keselowski’s night after he led the opening laps of the second duel.

Coming to the checkered flag, Jimmie Johnson runs out of gas and pulls his car up the track. Kamie McMurray follows him as Johnson slows down and the “big one” happens. Clint Bowyer goes for a 360 degree flip and lands on his wheels while numerous others are sent spinning through the infield.

Five drivers, including one of the 2014 Rookie of the Year contenders, failed to qualify for the race: No. 35 Eric McClure, No. 83 Ryan Truex, No. 87 Joe Nemechek, No. 93 Morgan Shepherd, No. 95 Michael McDowell
