Danica Patrick Crashes During Practice At Bristol

Earlier this afternoon Danica Patrick crashed during Sprint Cup practice. The damage that Patrick did to the No. 10 machine was enough to force her into a backup car for the rest of the weekend at Bristol. (To see a video of the crash CLICK HERE).

The incident occurred only three laps into the practice. Patrick was coming off of the corner when her car bobbled and got into the side of the No. 30 machine, driven by Parker Kligerman. Patrick then bounced off of Kligerman and got into the outside wall. Although the damage at first didn’t seem major, her team did later confirm via Twitter that she would have to go to the backup car.

This is not the way that Patrick or Stewart-Haas Racing wanted to start of the Bristol weekend. Patrick much like her teammates Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch are sitting deep in the point standings. Patrick is specifically in a bad spot because she is currently 35th in the owner standings. As a team Stewart-Haas Racing has struggled to perform this season sans Kevin Harvick. Given their past success at Bristol one would have to assume that the team is looking at Sunday’s race as an opportunity to build momentum.

In three previous Bristol races, Patrick has never finished inside of the top-15. For her, this weekend was about staying out of trouble and making it to the end of the race. If that is to happen, it’s going to be in her backup car.
