NASCAR will be rolling out the red carpet when the Sprint Cup circuit makes its way to Fontana, California for the Auto Club 400. Last week, fans at Bristol were treated to Co-Grand Marshall’s in Tennessee Head Coach Butch Jones and Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer. This weekend the stakes will be even higher as NASCAR brings in Billy Ray Cyrus and The Great Gonzo.
Billy Ray Cyrus will get the race day going by performing a pre-race concert at Auto Club Speedway. Cyrus is set to take the O’Reilly Auto Parts Fan Zone main stage around 10:00 AM for the concert. Cyrus is mostly known for his classic hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” Others might know him from the Disney TV show Hannah Montana or because of his daughter Miley Cyrus. While performing he will be singing material off of his new album including his latest single, “Hope Is Just Ahead.”
The concert is not open to the public. The only way to catch the show is to purchase a ticket to the Auto Club 400.
The Great Gonzo will not be singing, instead he will be the Grand Marshall for the event. For those of you that may not know, this Muppet has made quite the career out of being daredevil. Gonzo will be on hand to give drivers the starting command as well as to promote his latest movie, “Muppets Most Wanted.”
Gonzo recently shared his thoughts about being the Grand Marshall for the race.
Going around in circles as fast as possible is how I got my start. So it’s a real honor to be named Grand Marshal of this year’s Auto Club 400! For me, it’s right up there with sword-juggling, bog-snorkeling and competitive dentistry.
Once the action shifts to the track, all eyes will be on some of the drivers that had poor showings in Bristol. Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski will all be looking to rebound. On the other side, guys like Carl Edwards, Aric Almirola and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be looking to build off of their Bristol finishes. Jeff Gordon will enter this race looking for his fifth straight top-10 finish to start the season.
