Breaking News: Jimmie Johnson’s Brother-In-Law Dies In Accident

Sad news for Jimmie Johnson and his family as news has broken that his brother-in-law has passed away.

According to a report from nbcSanDiego.com, Jordan Janway (Johnson’s brother-in-law) passed away Sunday after a fatal skydiving accident. Janway who is reportedly a veteran jumper with more than 1,000 jumps to his credit; collided with another jumper during a training jump. According the article, it’s believed that the collision knocked out Janway, which then made it impossible for him to open his parachute.

Janway was the brother of Jimmie Johnson’s wife, Chandra. The Johnson family has released the following statement in regards to the accident:

Jordan was an incredible son, brother, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed. Please keep the Janway family in your thoughts and prayers. The family asks for privacy at this time.

My condolences to the Janway and Johnson families. As someone that has jumped before it sounds as if his emergency chute failed to open when it should, they have a device on them that is supposed to open the back up chute at a specified altitude if you are failing faster than with a open chute.

It has been years since I have been around skydivers, but I seem to remember altimeters being used to automatically deploy emergency chute if main chute wasn’t deployed.. I wonder why he wouldn’t have been using that technology?
