Every week  Beyond The Flag will present the NASCAR Pre-Race Primer which will have a handful of fun factoids that will help you prepare for the upcoming race. This Sunday the circuit is heading to the Texas Motor Speedway for the Duck Commander 500.

The race can be seen live on FOX with coverage beginning at 2:30 PM. The green flag is expected to wave at approximately 3:16 PM. Last season Kyle Busch found his was to victory lane during this event. NASCAR has seen six different winners through the first six races of 2014. Those winners do not include drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth or Jeff Gordon. Race fans will be tuning in to see if NASCAR will have its seventh different winner of the season in Texas. Heading into this race Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the current points leader. Kurt Busch was the winner of last weeks event in Martinsville.

Fun Factoids about Texas Motor Speedway:

  • Jeff Burton won the first Sprint Cup race at Texas in 1997.
  • Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte and Mark Martin are the only drivers to race in every Texas race.
  • Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Ryan Newman, Bobby Labonte and Martin Truex Jr have each won the pole at Texas twice, the most of any driver.
  • Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards have the most Texas wins with three each.
  • Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Burton and Denny Hamlin each have two wins.
  • Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch are the only drivers ti win at Texas from the pole position.
  • Matt Kenseth leads all drivers with 13 top-five finishes at Texas.
  • Joe Nemecheck has ran 23 races in Texas and never won there.
  • It took Jeff Gordon 16 attempts before winning at Texas and it took Kyle Busch 15 attempts.
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr won his first Sprint Cup race at Texas in 2000.

Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth should be the favorites entering this race. Both drivers have come close to winning in 2014 but neither has been able to seal the deal. Added attention will be on Johnson this week as he has been dealing with the tragic passing of his brother-in-law from earlier in the week. Race fans will also be keeping an eye on Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch. These two drivers got into quite the dust-up last week in Martinsville before Busch ultimately won the race. Both drivers have expressed their feelings about the issue not being settled; this has opened the door for fans to expect to see more feuding in Texas.
