NASCAR: 5-Hour Energy 400 LIVE Race Updates

Saturday night Beyond The Flag will be providing LIVE race updates of the 5-Hour Energy 400 from Kansas Speedway. Race coverage is set to begin at 7:00 PM ET with the green flag coming at 7:46 PM ET.  In honor of Mother’s Day, Clint Bowyer’s mother will be waving the green flag to get the race going. Be sure to check out the 5-Hour Energy 400 Pre-Race Primer to get all of the last minute facts and stats that you need to prepare for the race.

This article will be updated lap-by-lap tonight, be sure to keep refreshing this page for all of the latest race coverage.

UPDATE #1 – Race coverage is set to begin shortly.

UPDATE #2 – The Newman’s also do some great work with animals for those of you that do not know. Earlier this year the hit TV show ‘Tanked’ built a tank for their Rescue Ranch.

UPDATE #3 – Does there come a point where you have to ask if the struggles of Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle are associated with their impending free agent status? Granted, Edwards won a race this season but he has not be anywhere near consistent week to week.

UPDATE #4 – Carl Edwards does come across very well during interviews. There are a lot of drivers that look awkward during interviews but Edwards is a pro.

UPDATE #5 – Edwards just called out FOX for their ratings, which are horrible this season by the way.

UPDATE #6 – There is no way that you can not put any of the blame on Earnhardt, he was back there because he wanted to be back there, just saying.

UPDATE #7 – Do you think some of the drivers hate when Michael Waltrip comes around ….

UPDATE #8 – Weather is moving into the area, sigh.

UPDATE #9 – Some drivers are getting out of their cars and covering them, one driver appears to be sitting in his covered car, don’t know what that is about.

And now for the most famous words in Motorsports “Lady and Gentleman start your engines!”

LAP 1 –Harvick takes the green flag from Clint Bowyer’s mother and will lead the first lap.

LAP 9Harvick leads and all four SHR cars are running in the top-12.

LAP 20 – Harvick leads, Earnhardt Jr. is up to 14th.

LAP 31 – Harvick continues to lead. Larson has fallen back to the 10th position.

LAP 36 – Running Order : 4, 22, 99, 14, 2

LAP 42 – Menard, Blaney and Kahne hit pit road.

LAP 44 – Harvick pits, Logano leads.

LAP 48 – Caution for Bowyer who gets loose and spins. Brad Keselowski was the only driver to not pit before that caution.

LAP 50 – Kevin Harvick the lucky dog will restart on the front row, first time in NASCAR history.

LAP 53 – Restart and Kenseth almost wrecks but saves it. Harvick takes the lead back.

LAP 60 – Jimmie Johnson is moving towards the front while Earnhardt Jr. thinks they have a loose lug nut

LAP 60 – Caution is out. David Ragan, Ryan Truex, Michael Annett and Landon Cassill involved in a wreck.

LAP 61 – This caution will help Earnhardt Jr. and that vibration that he felt.

LAP 66 – Harvick will lead the field to the restart, the top-six did not pit.

LAP 72 – Caution is out, Hamlin in a single-car spin. Hamlin keeps it off of the wall.

LAP 74 – Hamlin remains on the lead lap.

LAP 75 – Restart, Harvick pushes out to the lead. Some of the leaders will need to pit soon.

LAP 84 – Harvick has a 1.005 second lead over Jeff Gordon. Harvick, Gordon, Kesekowski, Edwards and Johnson will have to pit soon.

LAP 95 – The lead handful of cars will have to pit around lap 100.

LAP 100 – Jeff Gordon hits pit road.

LAP 102 – Kevin Harvick hits pit road.

LAP 104 – Carl Edwards hits pit road.

LAP 110 – Logano leads, Keselowski hits pit road.

LAP 111 – Caution, Ambrose spins through the grass.

LAP 113 – Bowyer’s car seems to be okay, everyone pits and the cars who already pitted will take the wave around. Everyone is back on the same pit cycle now. Earnhardt and Johnson only take two tires though.

LAP 115 – Kyle Busch caught speeding on pit road. Some of the track lights have gone out, NASCAR is asking drivers if there is enough light to see or if they need to get those lights back on first.

LAP 117 – Johnson has clutch problems, will be an issue with pitting for the rest of the night.

LAP 119 – Restart, Earnhardt Jr. to the lead and pulling away from Logano.

LAP 125 – Logano takes the lead, Harvick and Gordon trying to march back to the front.

LAP 128 – Almost halfway and Logano leads, Kahne is closing in on Earnhardt Jr. for second. Danica Patrick is running 10th.

HALFWAY – Logano leads followed by Kahne and Earnhardt Jr.

LAP 139 – FOX just went commercial as it looked as though Kahne was going to pass for the lead …

LAP 148 – Harvick and Gordon and running 18th and 19th and they are struggling.

LAP 151 – Caution, Jamie McMurray into the wall and the car is up in flames.

LAP 156 – still under caution, Jeff Gordon is riding the apron to save fuel as pit road is not yet open and he is close to running out of fuel.

LAP 158 – Kahne wins the race off of pit road followed by Stewart.

LAP 160 – Kahne leads Logano and Stewart.

LAP 165 – Logano takes the lead, Patrick is running 5th.

LAP 172 – Harvick and Gordon are coming up through the field and are now in the top-10. Patrick is up to 3rd.

LAP 178 – Logano leads but Johnson, Patrick, Harvick and Gordon are all looking FAST.

LAP 179 – Caution is out, not that you would know since FOX is still at a commercial.

LAP 183 – Johnson and Busch (Kyle) did not pit. Kenseth gets lap back.

LAP 187 – Caution, horrible wreck! Gilliand’s car is destroyed! Allgaier is also involved. Allmendinger spun and triggered it and Gilliland took a really hard hit, he seems shaken up.

LAP 195 – Logano leads over Johnson but Harvick is coming.

LAP 203 – Caution, Kurt Busch again.

LAP 210 – Harvick to the lead and Patrick falls out of the top-10. Kenseth is in 9th.

LAP 220 – Gordon to second and Kyle Busch makes his final stop of the night.

LAP 235 – Only about 30 laps to go. Kyle Busch is playing a pit strategy game and the leaders still have to pit one more time. Harvick  leads Gordon by 1.33 seconds
