Clint Bowyer Wins Sprint Showdown, AJ Allmendinger Second

Friday night the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series kicked of their All-Star weekend with the Sprint Showdown. On the line in this 40 lap shootout were two spots in the Sprint All-Star Race which is sent to run on Saturday night. Going into the race many people predicted the likes of Danica Patrick and Kyle Larson to prevail and earn their spots in the All-Star Race. However when it was all said and done, Clint Bowyer won the race and AJ Allmendinger ran second.

Here are the complete results of the Sprint Showdown.

  1. Clint Bowyer
  2. AJ Allmendinger
  3. Casey Mears
  4. Marcos Ambrose
  5. Aric Almirola
  6. Kyle Larson
  7. Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
  8. Austin Dillon
  9. Paul Menard
  10. Danica Patrick
  11. David Gilliland
  12. Cole Whitt
  13. Alex Bowman
  14. Dave Blaney
  15. Michael Annett
  16. Joe Nemechek
  17. Landon Cassill
  18. Josh Wise
  19. Ryan Truex
  20. Reed Sorenson
  21. Blake Koch
  22. David Stremme

When the night kicked off Austin Dillon looked like he might take one of the top-two spots after he won the pole for the Showdown. Once the race got underway though it was clear that he didn’t have one of the stronger cars on the night. Some of the early on favorites like Patrick and Larson were never really factors to win or run in the top-two spots. For Bowyer and Allmendinger racing into the Sprint All-Star Race is a pretty big deal. Neither driver has had a great start to 2014, especially Bowyer. Running well tomorrow night could help build momentum heading into the race next week.
