It was all but announced on Sunday that Greg Biffle was staying with Roush Fenway Racing. Although RFR has yet to make the official announcement, numerous sources are confirming that Biffle isn’t going anywhere. With Biffle staying and Trevor Bayne being promoted in 2015, things are looking bleak for Carl Edwards. If Edwards were to stay with RFR they would have to field a fourth car next season. While that isn’t out of the question, it also doesn’t seem likely.
For a few weeks now the rumor mill has be producing a strong Edwards to Joe Gibbs Racing vibe. In fact, that has been the only spoken of destination for Edwards aside from staying with RFR. However, last week new rumors came out linking Edwards to Team Penske. Team Penske currently only fields two cars, both of which are Fords. The report suggested that Ford wants to keep Edwards in their cars and that Team Penske would be the perfect fit and benefit everyone.
This weekend Team Penske Owner Roger Penske addressed Carl Edwards and him possibly joining the team next season.
There’s no interest. We don’t have the sponsorship to do a third full-time team and he’s under contract with Roush Fenway Racing. It doesn’t make sense.
With Team Penske seemingly not interested one would have to imagine the attentions would shift back to Joe Gibbs Racing. If Edwards does indeed leave RFR it will be interesting in that RFR would have decided to keep the much older Biffle on the team. Then again, Biffle and his age will allow RFR to open up a seat for a younger driver much sooner than if Edwards were there.
