The second of six oval races on the 2018 IndyCar schedule is in the books. How do the teams stack up against one another at this point in the season?

With the Indianapolis 500 having been completed, two of the six oval races on the 2018 IndyCar schedule are in the books. Both of those oval race have been won by Team Penske drivers, as Josef Newgarden won the race at ISM Raceway in April and Will Power won his first Indy 500 this past Sunday.

Newgarden’s victory in the first oval race of the season came after Power already crashed out of the race having led more laps than any driver in the field. Team Penske’s other driver, Simon Pagenaud, also did not perform that well in that race, as he had to settle for 10th place.

In the Indy 500, all three of Team Penske’s full-time drivers finished in the top eight after two of them, Pagenaud and Power, started on the front row. Power claimed his first career Indy 500 victory after leading 59 of the race’s 200 laps around the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana, while Pagenaud finished in sixth place and Newgarden finished in eighth.

Power’s Indy 500 victory was the 17th Indy 500 victory of Team Penske team owner Roger Penske, which is 12 Indy 500 wins higher than the next highest Indy 500 win total by a team owner on the all-time list. Power’s win was Team Penske’s second Indy 500 win in the last four years, as Juan Pablo Montoya won the 2015 Indy 500 for the team ahead of Power in second place.

Lou Moore won the Indy 500 five times as an owner, and active team owner Michael Andretti, who owns Andretti Autosport and came into the 2018 Indy 500 having fielded the winning Indy 500 entry in the last two Indy 500 races and three of the last four Indy 500 races, has also won the race five times as an owner. Moore and Andretti are tied for second place on the all-time Indy 500 owner wins list behind Penske.
