Possible 2021 AlphaTauri drivers: #2 – Yuki Tsunoda

The most likely scenario, as things stand right now, is for Yuki Tsunoda to join AlphaTauri next season. He has already tested for the team at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, and Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has all but confirmed that he will be in Formula 1 next year.

The 20-year-old Japanese driver is a member of the Honda Formula Dream Project and the Red Bull Junior Team, and he currently competes for Carlin in Formula 2.

Through 20 races on the 24-race 2020 schedule, he sits in third place in the driver standings with two wins and an additional three podium finishes. Last year, he competed for Jenzer Motorsport in Formula 3 and won one of the 16 races on the schedule with two additional podium finishes en route to a ninth place finish in the standings.

Tsunoda won the 2018 Formula 4 Japanese Championship driving for the Honda Formula Dream Project with seven wins in 14 races after finishing in third place in the 2017 standings with three wins in 14 races.

If Red Bull are to promote him to Formula 1, now seems to be the right time to do it with so much uncertainty surrounding the futures of several of their current drivers.
