Announcements we’re still waiting for: No. 2 – Rick Ware Racing

As mentioned in the previous slide, Rick Ware Racing plan to run only two cars in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. They ran four entries in the 2021 season.

One of their four entries was classified as a Petty Ware Racing entry, as it was run using a charter technically owned by Richard Petty Motorsports.

But that charter has since been purchased by GMS Racing team owner Maury Gallagher, and it is set to be used for one of the two entries run by the newly formed Petty GMS Motorsports team.

Team owner Rick Ware had mentioned during this past season that he was open to selling or leasing out one of his team’s charters for the 2022 season, and the team’s subtle hint about their downsize from four cars to two indicates that this has been, or at least will be, done.

The rumored buyer/lessee is Spire Motorsports, given their pursuit of a charter for their second car.

But regardless of how things play out in this respect, Rick Ware Racing still need to confirm their own driver lineup for next year.

Given how the team have operated in the past, with multiple different drivers in each of their cars, it wouldn’t be surprising if they take don’t confirm their entire schedule right away. But with just two cars this year, expect a little bit less chaos than usual.

Only one driver has indicated a ride with the team for next year, and that is Josh Bilicki, who competed full-time for the team in the 2021 season.

Will he run full-time again in 2022? If not, with whom will he share his car? Which driver or drivers will pilot the team’s other car?
