NASCAR: Three Changes Needed To Save Roush-Fenway Racing
By Mike Hutton
What’s wrong with Roush-Fenway Racing (RFR)? Almost every fan, media outlet, fellow competitor and team has surely asked themselves this question at one time or another during the last 2-3 years. If the answer was simple, RFR surely would have addressed it by now, right? How can one of NASCAR’s legacy teams with a record of past championships and success continue to struggle? The short answer is that the sources of RFR’s continued struggles are everywhere within the organization — management, personnel and partnerships. The whole entity needs to be taken apart down to the core and then rebuilt before we will see a return to consistently strong finishes.
This article will focus on the Sprint Cup level of RFR. The company no longer fields entries in the Camping World Truck Series. The recent loss of sponsor One Main Financial (going with Elliott Sadler to JR Motorsports after this year) and Lilly Diabetes puts any future Xfinity Series entries in great doubt as well.
