Dominant victories or taking candy from a baby? Kyle Busch wins his second consecutive Truck Series race, rekindling the conversation about Cup drivers in lower series.

Heading into 2017, NASCAR instituted rules to limit the number of races that Cup Series drivers could run in lower, developmental series. The rule was two-fold, hoping to allow new stars to be born in the Truck and Xfinity Series, while also eliminating a problem many fans spoke vocally about. Fans of this change have not enjoyed the last two weeks of Truck Series racing, however.

Kyle Busch was dominant again on Friday night in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte, sweeping all three stages of the race en route to victory. It was his 7th career series win at the track, a 15th when you combine in his Xfinity Series wins. Johnny Sauter came home 2nd, and Busch’s teammate Christopher Bell in 3rd.

There was certainly hope that some could compete with the only Cup driver in the field. Ryan Truex turned a good test earlier in the year at Charlotte into a 4th-place finish, coming up short of his first elusive win. Chase Briscoe from Brad Keselowski Racing and Bell from Kyle Busch Motorsports each competed up front as well, only to fall short of the top spot.

With Busch’s win on Friday night, Cup Series competitors have won more races than Truck Series regulars five races into the 2017 campaign. Only Kaz Grala and Christopher Bell have locked in their spots into the playoffs. Could a third name finally get locked in as the series heads to Dover in two weeks?
