Three: 2006 – Auto Club 500

Back in 2006 drivers such as Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. were all Sprint Cup rookies, or should I say Nextel Cup rookies. With 10 laps to go Matt Kenseth was leading the race with Jimmie Johnson stalking him from behind. Johnson who won the Daytona 500 the week before was with Crew Chief Chad Knaus. Knaus missed this race as well as the next three after being suspended for infractions that were committed the week prior in Daytona. With five laps to go Scott Wimmer’s No. 4 machine blows up thus setting up a two lap shootout, single file style. Kenseth does everything that he can to keep the No. 48 behind him and prevent him from opening the season with consecutive wins.
