14th Seed – Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman is not going to win over the final seven races but that should not stop him from finding his way into the chase. Newman is currently 7th in the point standings and is ahead of six drivers who have won races this season. What that says is that despite not winning, Newman and the No. 31 team have run well and more importantly they have been consistent. It will be this consistency over the final seven race of the regular season that is going to allow Newman to secure his spot in the 2014 chase. Once in the chase I do not expect much from Newman. I can see the No. 31 car making it past the first round of eliminations and getting to the final 12 but that should be about as far as he goes in the chase. Newman will not be around once the field is dwindled down to eight.
