Where will they be in five years?

The HMS that you see now will not be the one that you see in five years.

There is a real possibility that in five years all of the current drivers that comprise the team will be gone. Gordon is sure to retire in the next few years and Johnson will have his contract coming up before that five year mark and he will be up there in age as well. If Johnson wins two more titles over the next four seasons it would be to argue him not retiring. At that point Johnson would be going on 44 years old and he would be a eight-time champion. Earnhardt Jr. will most likely leave after 2017 to run with JR Motorsports and Kahne’s new deal is set to run out right before that five-year mark.

In five years HMS could consist of Chase Elliott and three other drivers.

While the majority of the future of HMS is still unknown the fact remains that the clock is ticking on all of them. Next season they will have three drivers 40 years old or older and Kahne will be approaching 40 himself. HMS is not the New York Yankees, they are not going to be trotting out a stable of drivers who are all in their mid-40’s or older. We may not know exactly when the changes are going to happen but they are indeed coming.

What do you think HMS will look like in five years? Be sure to comment below and let us know.
