Cassill has had a few impressive years in his career the past couple of seasons, including running well in the NASCAR XFINITY Series for JD Motorsports. However, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa native isn’t sleeping too easy this week as he is on the edge of making the 2015 Daytona 500.

The team finished 34th in owner points in 2014 even though his best run came at Daytona in 2014. Cassill and his team finished 12th in the 2014 Daytona 500 opening some eyes and really making noise early for a team that didn’t have any points coming into the 2014 season.

That fact made Cassill miss the second and third races of the season although after Las Vegas the team made every race the rest of the season. However, those two missed races really put Cassill behind the eight ball and the team ended up lower in owner points than expected.

Sunday’s qualifying wasn’t what Cassill had hoped for either. The team qualified 47th out of 49 cars and now appears to be on the edge to make the Daytona 500. For a team that finished ninth in their Budweiser Duel race in 2014, missing the 500 in 2015 would be a complete shock to many involved in the sport.
