As we have already seen above late race restarts at Martinsville often create sticky situations for the leaders and the drivers in the rows behind them can have a chance. In this occasion the caution flag fell for Kyle Busch spinning when the leader Jeff Gordon was just about to take the white flag and this saved Denny Hamlin. He was fourth and fourth he restarted, but thanks to the mess that generated in the first green flag lap he got the lead and went on to win his third Grandfather Clock.
