No. 1 Jamie McMurray

Six races into the 2015 season and McMurray has been hit or miss. He currently finds himself 15th in the points and would make the chase if it started today which it obviously doesn’t. McMurray’s spot in the standings is thanks to finishes of 2nd, 10th and 11th this season. On the flip side he also has finishes of 21st, 27th and 40th. Ideally a driver would like 2/3 of their finishes to be quality finishes which is defined as a top-20 by most. McMurray is currently operating at 1/2 which simply isn’t going to get him into the chase this season unless he wins a race.

McMurray is part of a two-car operation at Chip Ganassi Racing along with rookie Kyle Larson. Larson is signed through 2017 so he will without question be there after 2015. McMurray on the other hand may be on his way out.  McMurray has always shown a lot of promise but that promise has been shadowed by Larson. With a few other bigger names potentially hitting the open market after 2015 it would seem that Ganassi might be looking to upgrade. The team and Larson would both benefit if a driver upgrade is made.

Prediction: Jamie McMurray will be looking for a new team after 2015.
