Let The Boys Have at It!

There seems to be a lack of bad blood in NASCAR, and boy is that a bad thing. NASCAR made huge waves in 2010 when they announced their new policy of “Boys Have at it”, but the idea was unfortunately scraped in 2012 after Gordon took it upon himself to take Clint Bowyer out of the Chase at Phoenix Motor Speedway.

Maybe Gordon went too far and maybe he didn’t, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that NASCAR is shying away from something that helps make the sport what it is. NASCAR should reinstate this policy but make changes to parts that they don’t deem safe. That way, fans can watch their favorite drivers duke it out on and off the track.

For example, NASCAR and race teams should let two drivers fight if they really want to. The way that NASCAR teams and officials try to step between drivers during an argument or fight is really anti climatic and only makes the sport look bad for not allowing these southern boys to do what they do they best.

Sure, personal safety is an issue and of course no one needs to get hurt during these fights, but a simple punch out until someone falls down should be acceptable. At least give them a few minutes to get out their anger at each other before breaking them up, that way fans can see the climax of a tense day between two drivers. I’m not suggesting that NASCAR become a blood sport but hockey allows fighting so why can’t NASCAR figure out a way to be cool with it as well.
