Too Much Fan Anticipation
Perception is reality.
More so in all levels of NASCAR racing than perhaps in any other sport. Fans will expect the excitement, drama and non-stop action that they think is going to evolve on Sunday. More times than not, it never materializes and fans leave disappointed.
If you go to the race or tune in expecting to see 43 cars in a pack of four-wide, 10-deep cars all day long, you’re going to be looking for a long time to see that. Maybe for a lap or two at the very beginning and then again for a lap or two at the end when driver’s are contemplating last-lap strategies, but it won’t be that way all day, yet some fans expect that it will be.
Wrecks, wrecks and more wrecks. As previously stated, some fans will want to see the big one, the medium-sized ones and the little ones all day long. With decidedly more drivers having something to lose rather than to gain, aggressiveness will give way to reason and fans will be disappointed.
Fans’ anticipation of constant pack racing and field-equalizing wrecks that never materialize will make this race a dud. You watch. It will happen.
