Single-car Qualifying and Practice
The anticipation and excitement at the beginning of any race weekend is palpable. More so at some tracks than others, and Talladega is certainly no exception – perhaps the most so. It is always a let down however, when drivers tip-toe their way through the practice sessions worrying more about not making a mistake than being fast.
Blah.
Some teammates or drivers who are super confident with some others might try pack racing in practice for a few moments at a time, but not for long. It’s that risk/reward thing again.
NASCAR will also use the modified single-car qualifying procedures used at the previous three restrictor-plate races this year. That’s really BORING! I understand why of course, those measures were resurrected in the interest of everyone’s safety. I get it, but there has to be a better way. Please comment below if you have suggestions!
Practice and qualifying runs will fail to set an exciting tone for the weekend, and that will make this race a dud. You watch. It will happen.
