Martin Truex Jr.

2015 Stats:

  • 35 starts
  • One win (Pocono)
  • Eight top-five’s
  • 22 top-10’s

Homestead-Miami Stats:

  • 10 starts
  • Three top-five’s
  • Seven top-10’s

Truex and the Furniture Row Racing team have been the ultimate underdogs in 2015. A team with only one other Chase appearance (2013) as well as one other win (Regan Smith, Darlington 2011), Truex has been doing more with less and has really meshed with Crew Chief Cole Pearn in 2015. He’s had a career year in 2015, winning only his third Cup race in June at Pocono.

Like Harvick, Truex hasn’t really has a weak point in 2015. He started the year off with a top-10 streak, running well at various types of tracks. If anything can be said was a weak point, it would be his road course performances. However, considering there aren’t anymore road courses in 2015, there isn’t anything to worry about then, right?

His summer slump wasn’t the result of poor equipment or team miscommunication. Every team has a slump during the season. Some slumps may be longer than others, but the fact remains that Truex has been consistent and strong when it matters most, and that’s heading into Homestead-Miami.

Homestead has been kind to Truex over the years. In all of his starts, he’s only finished worse than 11th twice. He finished second there as a rookie in 2006, and considering Truex’s luck on the 1.5-mile tracks in 2015 he is undoubtedly a threat to win there Sunday. Truex, along with Gordon, is a sentimental favorite to win on Sunday solely because they’re the Cindrella team in the title hunt.
