NASCAR: Five Racing Shows Today’s Fans Missed Out On

American Sports Cavalcade was another important motorsports television program through the 80s and early 90s for race fans. ASC aired on TNN from 1983 through 1995 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Of all motorsports television shows, ASC was without a doubt the most diverse. Among the events featured on the show were NASCAR’s Southwest Tour Series, the World Of Outlaws, NHRA drag racing and monster trucks. ASC also featured swamp buggy races, AMA Superbikes and racing from the ASA series.

Longtime fans will remember the And They Walked Away series of VHS tapes which featured incidents broadcasted on ASC. Others will remember the lively theme song and opening narration by Dave McClelland.

Regardless, the variety of motorsports that ASC featured in its time on air is something that is sorely lacking today.
