No. 1 – Watkins Glen (2009)

This had to be one of the scariest wrecks of Jeff Gordon’s storied career in the Sprint Cup Series, especially due to how sudden and unavoidable the wreck actually was. It all started when Kasey Kahne got loose and accidentally made contact with Sam Hornish, who then slammed head on into the tire barrier of the track.

The situation was then made worse by the fact Hornish’s car then slid back onto the racing groove, where he was then hit at full speed by an unlucky Jeff Gordon. If all that wasn’t bad enough, the impact then caused Gordon’s Chevrolet to slam head first into the Armco barrier of the track. Gordon eventually climbed out of his car, but looked very shocked when looking at the wreckage.
