Flags Bring Controversy
To some it’s a symbol of southern heritage and pride, for others, it’s a symbol of hate and racism that goes all the way back to the days of the Civil War.
Many in the media saw the flag as offensive, especially with the numerous racial issues that were taking place that year in the United States.
Fans of the sport saw things differently however, and ultimately refused to take their symbol of heritage down, even when multiple tracks ran flag exchange programs to encourage them to turn in their rebel flag for an American one. In the end, the rebel flag waves true in infields across America, and NASCAR fans want it no other way.
