Saying Goodbye
NASCAR is a sport like no other.
This is especially true when you look back at how NASCAR has remembered and paid tribute to their fallen colleagues over the years. Such was the case with NASCAR’s tribute to longtime pit reporter, Steve Byrnes, who died from complications from cancer in early 2015.
In honor of Byrnes, NASCAR drivers donned his initials above their driver side windows, and a few drivers even had pictures of him and his son put on the hood of their cars. If that wasn’t already awesome enough, NASCAR allowed Byrnes son, Bryson, to turn in his father’s ballot for the 2016 NASCAR Hall of Fame.
While the silence on lap three in 2001 will always be one of the most popular tributes NASCAR ever paid to a legend, the touching tribute for former pit reporter, Steve Byrnes, will always be one to remember.
