Dover
Changes Made: Additional SAFER barriers have been added in recent years to make Dover now fully-covered on both the outside and inside wall areas. $2.9 million of new catch fencing (21 feet tall as opposed to the previous 15 feet) was installed before the Busch accident.
Comment: Ed Kilma, Director of public safety and track operations, said:
"“Should additional engineering and technical knowledge become available that identifies additional areas of concern, then we would certainly look at adding those measures.”"
Accidents have been somewhat rare at Dover in recent years, but when they happen, they happen quickly and can collect a lot of cars. The track has been described as “self-cleaning” due to the propensity for carnage to find its way to the inside of the track due to the high banking.
